Safety Council Volunteer program in Montana and Wyoming

Funded by grants, donations, in-kind and matching donations and with nominal fees from businesses, the Wyoming-Montana Safety Council is expanding opportunities for volunteers throughout Wyoming and Montana to bring about constructive change in their communities and workplaces.

More work in the areas of traffic safety, occupational safety and home safety can be done continually decreasing costs. The concept of values-based safety beginning in childhood can be advanced. There are exciting possibilities as the Safety Council interacts with other non-profit organizations.

The Safety Council is conscious of three things that can go wrong:
1. The volunteer's time is wasted
2. That skills and talents are not utilized appropriately
3. That a volunteer may be placed in a job for which he/she is not suited.

So that these problems are minimized, the Safety Council is performing detailed needs analyses and is defining jobs that can be done in all communities and in all 45,000 businesses in Wyoming and Montana. Each volunteer will be evaluated in detail for interests and abilities. So that it is win-win for all concerned, opportunities for personal growth will be emphasized.

Included are positions in the areas of:

  • News writing and other public relations
  • Staffing of booths at public events
  • Defensive driving training using National Safety Council programs
  • Rapid Eye Check training
  • Conducting focus groups to deal with local problems
  • Grant request writing
