Avoid Accidents at Intersections

Except under conditions, which cannot be overcome by the driver, either when approaching, or in the intersections, accidents at intersections are unnecessary and therefore avoidable.

1. Approach every intersection prepared to avoid an accident.

2. Slow down before you reach the intersection, approach it slowly, with foot on the brake pedal, then if all is clear, accelerate and clear the intersection quickly.

3. Where the view is obstructed, slow down and, if necessary, STOP-even if there is no “STOP” sign. Sounds sort of funny: “I didn’t stop because there was no Stop sign.”

4. Observe the right-of-way rule, but if the other driver insists upon the right-of-way, let him have it and live.

5. Never pass another vehicle at or in an intersection.

6. Watch carefully for vehicles preparing to make a turn at the intersection.

7. When you expect to make a turn at an intersection be sure your vehicle is in the correct position, then be courteous and signal your intentions.

8. Don’t rely on Stop signs to stop the other fellow. Remember, Stop signs do not control his brake pedal.

9. Be considerate of a pedestrian and respect his right-of-way at intersections.
