Ladder Experts Test

Photo analysis is a good training tool because the actions are fixed and because they are a real life situation rather than a list of rules.

In the picture to the left, the man is standing on a metal stepladder during regular hours in an active driveway that is used by the general public. He is scraping paint.

• What is being done that is a safe procedure?
• Is there any OSHA violation?
• Is there any safety hazard not listed by OSHA?
• Is there another way this could have been done that would be safer?
• Is there another way this could have been done that would be more efficient?

On the same day we got another picture that unfortunately was not close enough or clear enough. A man was standing on top of a pile of logs on a truck. He was wearing a t shirt and jeans. He was using a chain saw. He was wearing sneakers. He did not have a hard hat. He did not have safety glasses or ear protection. There are workers beside the truck similarly unprotected. The man on the top of the logs, holding a running chain saw, was kicking the cut pieces to the ground.
